Admission to the Cardinal Krol Center
The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has licensed the Cardinal Krol Center at Don Guanella Village (CKC) for 131 ICF/MR beds. Residential placement in CKC's ICF/MR is one residential option. For other options, see Community Programs.
To be eligible for placement in CKC's ICF/MR men must have a diagnosis of mental retardation, be eligible for Medicaid, and require and benefit from continuous active treatment in a protected residential setting with 24-hour supervision. Admissions to CKC's ICF/MR are solely through referral from the Department of Human Services in Philadelphia and from the Offices of Mental Retardation throughout Southeastern Pennsylvania.
Admissions to CKC's ICF/MR are approved after a complete review of the individual's needs, the Offices of Mental Retardation Services' recommendation, and a determination of the appropriateness of the placement. To be considered for admission to CKC's ICF/MR, the individual must need training in personal skills essential for privacy and independence. This list includes but is not limited to, toilet training, personal hygiene, dental hygiene, self-feeding, bathing, dressing, grooming, and communication of basic needs.
CKC maintains an active waiting list in accordance with all state and local requirements as applicable. Should an opening occur in CKC's ICF/ MR, we will take referrals from the waiting list with consideration given to the prioritization of the urgency of need.
Admission to CKC's residential services will not be denied on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, age, national origin or disability.
